Listen to this episode of The Daily Trends Report, then use the piece below.

Monday your [YouTube](https://www.linkedin.com/company/youtube?ref=giovanni-gallucci.ghost.io) view count jumps. Nothing about the business grew.

Starting August 24, YouTube counts a public view from the first frame of playback. Long-form, live, Shorts, the lot. The old threshold didn't die. It got a new name, engaged views, and that renamed number is still the one tied to monetization and Partner Program math. YouTube said earnings and YPP eligibility are not moving with the public counter. So the number under the video gets louder overnight. The number that pays you sits still.

[Forbes](https://www.forbes.com/sites/gabrielalinzainescu/2026/08/17/youtube-changes-how-it-counts-views-handing-marketers-two-numbers-instead-of-one/?ref=giovanni-gallucci.ghost.io) had the marketer version of this on August 17\. YouTube's own explainer is cleaner: a hover-autoplay can now mint a view. An engaged view is the person who stayed, or the person who actually tapped. Your archive keeps the old totals, so pre-Monday videos and post-Monday videos are not the same unit. Somebody in September is going to drop a 20-to-40 percent "lift" into a CMO deck with no footnote.

If you run organic social for a food brand that posts process, recipes, or plant tours on YouTube, freeze the baseline today. Screenshot engaged views, not the public count. That's the only honest number left once the counter stops meaning what it used to.

This is negative news dressed as a gift. Don't cheer the bigger number. Don't let a buyer rewrite your rate card off inflated views. Your job this week is to lock the metric you'll actually defend in Q4.

This article is the extension. The show is the briefing. The post is what you do with it.

## What you post this week

You're not announcing a YouTube policy. You're telling your audience, and your buyers, which number you'll report.

Same caption on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. Put a cut of it on YouTube too, native, not a 16:9 crop of a Reel.

Copy you can paste:

YouTube's public view count goes up Monday. We didn't get more interesting overnight.

Starting August 24 they count from the first frame. The number that still decides money is engaged views. That's the one we'll quote. If a report shows a jump with no extra watch time, it's the ruler, not the work.

What you do not post:

Views are exploding!

Thanks for 2 million, family.

Algorithm loves us this week.

Don't post a screenshot of the public counter as a win. Don't let a creator on your roster quote the new number in a media kit without the footnote. That's how you train a buyer to distrust every chart you send after Labor Day.

If a sponsor asks for "views," send engaged views and say why. One sentence. No essay.

## The still

Don't use a laptop with a YouTube analytics dashboard as a flex. That's a humblebrag and it will date in a week.

Shoot it on a phone. Desk or kitchen. Window light.

Frame a printed page or a notebook with this week's date and the words you will actually say in a meeting, written by hand: engaged views. A yellow mug in the corner. No screens with readable UI if you can help it. UI is fake text waiting to happen. A closed laptop is fine.

If you only have one still, that's the still.

## The video (one take, 20 to 30 seconds)

You. The person who sends the monthly report. Handheld.

Shot list:

1. Phone calendar, Monday circled, no readable app chrome if you can avoid it (3 seconds)
2. A printed chart or notebook, finger on the line you'll keep (4 seconds)
3. On camera, the line below (12 to 16 seconds)
4. End card: engaged views. No URL salad.

Say it like this:

Monday the public count gets easier. The paying count does not. We screenshot engaged views this week and that's the number in every deck through Q4\. If someone shows you a lift with no extra watch time, ask which view they mean.

Don't say "we're so grateful for the support." Don't say "what a way to start the week." Show the ruler.

Captions on. Burn in two cards: August 24\. Engaged views.

Post it native. Same caption as the still.

## The comments (this is the actual job)

Pin the footnote. For 72 hours, a human replies.

Public reply to "congrats on the views":

Different ruler on Monday. Engaged views is the one we'll keep quoting. Pin has the why.

Public reply to a creator on your roster quoting the new number:

Use engaged. I'll send the screenshot format we're using with buyers.

Stop at one reply. Don't argue platform politics.

## LinkedIn, for the people who write checks

Public YouTube views become a reach figure on August 24\. Engaged views remain the attention figure. Our Q4 creator briefs and our own reporting will cite engaged, with a date-stamped baseline from this week.

If you're buying food content off a media kit that only shows public views after Monday, you're buying a new ruler. Ask for the old one.

## If this is sitting on your calendar

Before Monday: screenshot engaged views on your brand channel and every creator you pay. Write one sentence into the report template. After Monday: refuse to present a lift that isn't on that line.

If you want the briefing before the write-up, the overnight desk is The Daily Trends Report on [Apple Podcasts](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-daily-trends-report/id1896763846?i=1000785549310&ref=giovanni-gallucci.ghost.io) and [Spotify](https://open.spotify.com/show/033jcZwbZNGKpeUTRJvt1J?ref=giovanni-gallucci.ghost.io). This piece is what you do after you listen.

If freezing the baseline, rewriting the report sentence, and telling a buyer the public count is no longer the job is the part that's hard, that's the work I do. I'm giovanni gallucci. Twenty-plus years in organic social for outdoor lifestyle and clean-label food and beverage brands. Ad Age, Emmy, Shorty, Telly, Webby on the shelf. The useful part is I embed with your team and ship the posts. I don't do paid ads or email.
